Diploma of Events (Sport and Recreation)

This course is for people who work in or want to work in the sport and recreation industry specialising in event management by undertaking specialist training in order to organise sport and recreation activities. Learn the skills behind coordinating programs, planning publicity, staging productions, obtaining sponsorship and ensuring maximum enjoyment for participants and spectators. With employment options in sporting associations, community organisations, local councils and festivals, it’s the perfect course to improve your performance.

This course has been developed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and is a nationally recognised course.

Entry Requirements
  1. Have achieved a Certificate III qualification in an events-related area. Certificate III qualifications which are particularly relevant include those in the areas of: Business, entertainment, hospitality, museums and libraries, music, sport and recreation and tourism. OR
  2. Have paid or voluntary employment experience at an operational, coordination or management level in an events-related field. A current or previous job role that involves or has involved the application of skills and knowledge relevant to the staging and management of functions and events would be appropriate.
As a minimum, employment experience must reflect the breadth, depth and complexity of a qualification at Certificate III level, as defined in the AQF guidelines.

N.B. Face to face and correspondence courses can be tailored to an individual or group’s specific needs and requirements. ASA has options available for this course to be delivered in a shorter time period without compromising the quality of learning, or the value of the qualification. Program Duration
Full Time:  18 months       Part Time: 36 months
  • Classes are normally timetabled between 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday
  • Industry placement occurs in 2nd and 3rd semester and students are placed in the work place once a week in addition to normal classes
  • Hands-on components occur throughout the course
Course Commencement
Course commences in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.

Program Articulation
Successful completion of this program may assist students to gain entry into university and/or may contribute towards study credits.

Delivery Methods
This course is delivered through face to face classroom learning, online learning at students' self pace or by correspondence and can also be offered as a traineeship.

Assessment Methods
Students are required to participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects, observation, role plays and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Assessment opportunities will be endorsed as a cluster where applicable.  If a suitable strategic goal is not identified then a recognised resource will be implemented.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Accreditation

Qualifications granted by ASA are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). ASA National Training Provider No. 31717

Course Structure

The course structure of the Diploma of Event (Sport and Recreation) comprises twenty-four (24) units of competency from the qualification. The 24 units are made up of:
  • fourteen (14) core/compulsory units
  • ten (10) elective units
The approved nominal reporting hours of delivery for Diploma of Event (Sport and Recreation) is 940 Hours.
