Certificate IV in Fitness
Take your passion for fitness to a professional level, with a comprehensive course providing all-round skills for instructors in the fitness industry. Entry Requirements
Completion of Year 12 is desirable and a personal interest and involvement in fitness activities is recommended.
Where competition for places is high, applicants are selected according to eligibility and merit; vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies are used to determine entry.
Entry into the part-time program may be gained only after completion of the Certificate III in Fitness (or it's equivalent).
Program Duration
Full Time 12 months
(Certificate III in Fitness 6 months / Certificate IV in Fitness 6 months)
Part Time 27 weeks
(Certificate IV only) Study includes two weeknights.

Course Prerequisites
The pre-requisite for the Certificate IV in Fitness is the Certificate III in Fitness.
Course Commencement
Course commences in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.

Delivery Methods
This course is
delivered through face to face classroom learning or by correspondence and can also be offered as a
traineeship.
Assessment Methods
The assessment for the Certificate IV in Fitness covers a range of formats to fully prepare the applicants for each topic area. Study plans are included to assist students in learning with regular practice assessments and tutoring services available. These include:
- Theory Assessments
- Written Assessment Tasks
- Practical Assessment
- Practical Placement Workbook
- Industry Skills Workbook
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) / Recognition of Current Competency (RCC)
Applicants who have completed studies in allied areas to health and fitness or have relevant life or work experiences may be eligible for RPL/RCC. This involves matching the skills and knowledge acquired from formal learning and experience against the requirements of the course. If the information presented is relevant to the course then some parts of the course and related assessments may not need to be completed.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Qualifications granted by ASA are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). ASA National Training Provider No. 31717
Course Structure
The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course. Units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.
You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course completion instructions. If a course contains optional groups there will statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do. At the top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement saying how many you must do.
The qualification provides a learning pathway to the Fitness Industry Training Package (SRF04 V2) qualification SRF40206 - Certificate IV in Fitness.
The qualification is competency based and workplace focused. The Training Package rules require completion of twenty-one (21) units of competency to achieve the Certificate IV in Fitness as follows:
- nine (9) core / compulsory units
- seven (7) stream units
- one (1) specialisation unit
- four ( 4) elective units
Students study in the areas of anatomy, physiology, exercise science, fitness instruction, fitness assessment, clients and communication, sport law, occupational health and safety and activity leadership.
The approved nominal reporting hours of delivery for Certificate IV in Fitness is 847 Hours.
N. B. If a student is attempting the Certificate IV in Fitness without having completed the Certificate III in Fitness, the student will be required to complete a further 16 pre - requisite units.
