Certificate II in Sport (Career-oriented participation)
Develop your passion for Sports to a professional level, with a comprehensive course providing all-round skills in improving athletic aptitude and knowledge on and off the field. Obtain the advanced technical skills and knowledge required to deal with coaches and competitors, and increase your success in off the field situations such as undertaking promotional and media duties and managing financial sponsorships and contracts. For those athletes who are competing at high level competition, it’s the perfect course to ensure your career achieves great results.
This course has been developed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and is a nationally recognised course.
Entry Requirements
There are no minimum education requirements for this course although it is expected that the student be employed or actively engaged in their chosen sport. As a minimum, students should be
- an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder; or
- a State/Territory Institute/Academy of Sport scholarship holder; or
- a Regional Institute/Academy of Sport scholarship holder; or
- a member of a National team, squad or development program; or
- a member of a National or State/Territory Sporting Organisation Intensive Training Centre program or similar talent development program; or
- a member of a national league/competition team, squad or development program; or
- a member of a team in a second-tier national competition.
Program Duration
Full Time: 6 months Part Time: 12 months

Classes are normally timetabled between 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday
- Hands-on components occur throughout the course.
N.B. Face to face and correspondence courses can be tailored to
an individual or group’s specific needs and requirements. ASA has
options available for this course to be delivered in as little as 6

Course Commencement
Course commences in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.
Program Articulation
Successful completion of this program may assist students to gain entry into university and/or may contribute towards study credits.

Delivery Methods
This course is
delivered through face to face classroom learning, online learning at
students' self pace or by correspondence and can also be offered as a
traineeship.
Assessment Methods
Students are required to participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects, observation, role plays and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Assessment opportunities will be endorsed as a cluster where applicable. If a suitable strategic goal is not identified then a recognised resource will be implemented.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Qualifications granted by ASA are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). ASA National Training Provider No. 31717
Course Structure
The course structure of the Certificate II in Sports Coaching comprises a minimum of eighteen (18) units of competency from the national qualification. The 18 units are made up of:
- five (5) core/compulsory units
- fourteen (14) stream units
- Choose one of the following specialist units
- Australian football (3) units
- Canoeing (1) unit
- Cricket (3) units
- Golf (3) units
- Netball (3) units
- Rugby league (3) units
- Rugby Union (3) units
- Touch (2) units
- seven (7) elective units
The Seven (7) elective units of competency from any Training Package within the Sport and Recreation Industry (Community Recreation, Fitness, Outdoor Recreation, Sport) or from any other endorsed Training Package from any other industry.
