Diploma of Sport (Development)
This course is for Sports Development Officers, Operations Managers, Sport Program Managers or Coach Advisors who want to further their career with a Sports association or in local government or state/territory sport and recreation agencies.
You will acquire advanced technical, planning, management and leadership skills related to Sport. You will learn about managing occupational health and safety, legal compliance, work team performance, conducting projects, developing proposals and implementing event management systems.
You will participate in the development of strategic initiatives and take personal responsibility and autonomy in performing complex technical and sports operations.
This course has been developed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and is a nationally recognised course.
Entry Requirements
Completion of Year 12 or equivalent or, non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies or current employment in the Industry.
Program Duration
Full Time: 18 months Part Time: 36 months
- Classes are normally timetabled between 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday
- Industry placement occurs in 2nd and 3rd semester and students are placed in the work place once a week in addition to normal classes
- Hands-on components occur throughout the course

an individual or group’s specific needs and requirements. ASA has

Course Commencement
Course commences in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.

Delivery Methods
This course is delivered through face to face classroom learning or by correspondence and can also be offered as a traineeship.
Assessment Methods
Students are required to participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects, observations, role plays and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Assessment opportunities will be endorsed as a cluster where applicable. If a suitable strategic goal is not identified then a recognised resource will be implemented.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be
granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition
of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience
and/or formal training.

Qualifications granted by ASA are accredited by the Queensland
Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts.

Course Structure
The course structure of the Diploma of Sports (Development) comprises the thirty four (34) units of competency from the national qualification. The 34 units are made up of:
- nine (9) core/compulsory units
- sixteen (16) specialisation units from the functional area of development
- nine (9) elective units
The approved nominal reporting hours of delivery for Diploma of Sports (Development) is 621 Hours.
N.B. If a student is attempting the Diploma of Sports (Development) without having completed the Certificate IV in Sport (Development), the student will be required to complete a further 15 pre requisite units.
