Certificate III in Sport (Officiating)

With employment opportunities ranging from sports official, umpire or industry adviser at all levels of government, it’s the perfect course to advance your career.
This course has been developed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and is a nationally recognised course.
It enables people working or wanting to work in the sports industry to develop skills in officiating. Students will gain the skills and knowledge to supervise sporting events, decide on results, record and announce results and administrate competitions. Students are able to specialise in a particular sporting area.
Entry Requirements
There are no minimum education requirements for this course although it is expected that the student be employed or actively engaged in their chosen sport.
Program Duration
Full Time: 12 months Part Time: 24 months
- Classes are normally timetabled between 9.00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday
- Industry placement occurs in the 3rd and 4th semester and students are placed in the work place once a week in addition to normal classes
- Hands-on components occur throughout the course.
N.B. Face to face and correspondence courses can be tailored to
an individual or group’s specific needs and requirements. ASA has

Course Commencement
Course commences in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.

Delivery Methods
This course is
delivered through face to face classroom learning, online learning at
students' self pace or by correspondence and can also be offered as a
traineeship.
Assessment Methods
Students are required to participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects, observation, role plays and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Assessment opportunities will be endorsed as a cluster where applicable. If a suitable strategic goal is not identified then a recognised resource will be implemented.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Accreditation
Qualifications granted by ASA are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). ASA National Training Provider No. 31717
Course Structure
The course structure of the Certificate III in Sport (Officiating) comprises a minimum of twenty one (21) units of competency from the national qualification. The 21 units are made up of:
- nine (9) core/compulsory units
- five (5) stream units from the functional area of officiating
- three (3) specialisation units
- four (4) elective units
The approved nominal reporting hours of delivery for Certificate III in Sport (Officiating) is 373 Hours.
N.B. If a student is attempting the Certificate III in Sport (Officiating) without having completed the Certificate II in Sport (Officiating), the student will be required to complete a further 9 pre requisite units.
