Certificate III in Sport and Recreation

This course is for people who work in or want to work in the sport and recreation industry.

You will develop business, leisure and sport, legal, risk management and Customer relations core competencies and will be able to transfer and apply theoretical concepts and/or technical skill to a range of situations.

You will acquire planning and coordination skills within a sport and recreation context and will learn how to manage people, environmental performance and projects. You will also develop skills oriented towards a specialty area of your choice within the sport and recreation industry

This course has been developed under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) and is a nationally recognised course.

Entry Requirements
There are no minimum education requirements for this course although it is expected that the student be employed or actively engaged in their chosen sport.

Program Duration
Full Time:  12 months       Part Time: 24 months
  • Classes are normally timetabled between 9.00 and 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday
  • Industry placement occurs in the 3rd and 4th semester and students are placed in the work place once a week in addition to normal classes
  • Hands-on components occur throughout the course.
N.B. Face to face and correspondence courses can be tailored to an individual or group’s specific needs and requirements. Course Commencemnet
Course commences in February, April, July and September each year for full time and part time applicants.

Program Articulation
Successful completion of this program may assist students to gain entry into university and/or may contribute towards study credits.

Delivery Methods
This course is delivered through face to face classroom learning or by correspondence and can also be offered as a traineeship.

Assessment Methods

Students are required to participate in practical activities, complete assignments, presentations, vocational projects, observation, role plays and recognition of prior learning (RPL). Assessment opportunities will be endorsed as a cluster where applicable.  If a suitable strategic goal is not identified then a recognised resource will be implemented.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

Accreditation
Qualifications granted by ASA are accredited by the Queensland Government through the Department of Education, Training and the Arts. This program is nationally recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). ASA National Training Provider No. 31717

Course Structure
The course structure of the Certificate III in Sport and Recreation comprises a minimum of nineteen (19) units of competency from the national qualification. The 19 are made up of:
  • nine (9) core/compulsory units
  • Choose one of the following specialist units
    • Events and Facilities (5) units
    • General administration (6) units
    • Hospitality (8) units
    • Retail (4) units
    • Sales and Marketing (9) units
  • five (5) elective units
The five (5) elective units of competency may come from any Training Package within the Sport and Recreation Industry (Community Recreation, Fitness, Outdoor Recreation, Sport) or from any other endorsed Training Package from any other industry.

N.B. If a student is attempting the Certificate III in Sport and Recreation without having completed the Certificate II in Sport and Recreation, the student may be required to complete further pre requisite units additional to those listed above.
